Will you get more out of the Bible if you are a better reader? Obviously, yes! To say otherwise is absurd. The Bible is read. Reading is a technical skill. It requires competency. There is a degree of understanding that you need to begin reading but then you also grow in degrees of competency thusContinue reading “Thoughts on, Recovering the Lost Art of Reading. Part 2”

Productive Suffering
Getting into the mindset and the head of the apostle Paul is rather uncomfortable at times. It’s uncomfortable because we like ourselves the way we are. Some Honest Wisdom on Work
In this post, we will see that the wise worker is an honest worker, while the foolish worker is a dishonest worker. But if you don’t like this post, don’t worry. Just tell me you loved it. Better still, don’t read it, and tell me you loved it. I won’t know the difference.

Wisdom that Tempers Anger
The problem with anger is not necessarily the external circumstances that cause it, but the anger that arises from within. While it may not necessarily be sinful to be angry, it can make it easier to sin, especially if one is quick to get angry. Anger arises from a lack of self-control and a desire for power. However, self-control is better than taking control, and patience is better than being a powerful warrior. Anger is an issue of character, not just behavior, and it’s important to be motivated by a love for God and people, rather than a self-centered view of anger. The book of Proverbs offers practical advice on wisdom, but it’s also important to see it put into practice, such as by Jesus.

Foolish Words in an Expressive Age
In a world that holds personal expression (including that of our words) as one of the greatest virtues, self-discipline and restraint will naturally be held in lower esteem. We need to apply the wisdom of proverbs to our use of words.
